Opal Apron Mug
Opal Apron Mug
In 1877 Emily Dickinson penned a letter to her mentor, Thomas Wentworth Higginson, which included a short poem about a solar eclipse. She had likely witnessed an eclipse in 1875 and managed to capture the wonder and enormity of the event in eight simple lines. Almost 150 years later, the words are enchanting us, still.
When we stumbled across this gorgeous illustration from Walter Crane’s “Flowers from Shakespeare's Garden: a Posy from the Plays”, it embodied “Nature in her Opal Apron” so beautifully, we knew we had to bring the two together.
It sounded as if the Streets were running
And then -- the Streets stood still --
Eclipse -- was all we could see at the Window
And Awe -- was all we could feel.
By and by -- the boldest stole out of his Covert
To see if Time was there --
Nature was in an Opal Apron,
Mixing fresher Air.
