"COLOR CHART: a systematic arrangement of colors in a geometrical design such that every variation and combination of hue, tint, and shade is in its proper place and in correct relation to all other hues, tints, and shades."

So wrote painter Emily Noyes Vanderpoel in Color Problems (1902), a manual that taught readers to pull color loose from its object, measure how much of each hue there is, and paint the result into a grid of ten squares by ten. How she decided each color's "proper place", she never quite says; she trusted the reader's own eye would sort that part out.

Plate LXXXI comes from an antique rug, its colors lifted free of the weave and counted square by square.

A warm, quiet piece for a reading nook, a studio shelf, or the desk of anyone who has ever lost an afternoon to paint swatches.

Size: 9 oz
Burn Time: 50-60 hours

Scents:

Christmas Warmth: Orange spice, fir, and pine over a smoky hint of fireplace, blended with essential oils.

Cinnamon Vanilla: Spicy cinnamon softened by sweet, creamy vanilla.

Coconut Cream + Cardamom: Opens bright and savory with curry, lemon, and butter, then settles into creamy coconut, black pepper, and cardamom.

White Sage + Lavender: Lavender up top, with camphor, chamomile, sage, and rosemary over a base of sandalwood and cedarwood.

Clean Cotton: Orange, lemon, and sea air, like laundry drying on the line on a breezy day.

Sea Salt + Orchid: Sicilian lemon and fresh marine notes over sandalwood and cedarwood.

Ocean Water: Bergamot and orange with sea air and soft florals (geranium, lily of the valley, and violet) over amber, cedarwood, sandalwood, and musk.
